Who we are

This notice explains how GDL Consultancy Ltd uses personal information. It covers our website, gdlconsultancy.com; our takeoff and pricing software, MarkMetric, at markmetric.co.uk; and the ways we contact businesses about our work.

GDL Consultancy Ltd is the controller of this information. We’re registered in England and Wales, company number 11020830. Our registered office is 82a James Carter Road, Mildenhall, Bury St. Edmunds, IP28 7DE.

For anything about your information, email support@gdlconsultancy.com.

The short version

  • Our website sets no cookies and uses no analytics or advertising trackers.
  • MarkMetric keeps your projects, drawings and prices in your own web browser. They are never sent to us, and we can’t see them.
  • We only collect what we need to answer you, run your trial, sell you a licence, or introduce our products to businesses.
  • We never sell your information.
  • You can ask us at any time to see, correct or delete it, or to stop contacting you.

What we collect and why

What we hold depends on how you deal with us.

When What we collect Why Lawful basis How long we keep it
You use our contact form Name, email address, company (if given) and your message To reply to you Our legitimate interest in answering enquiries Two years after we last hear from you
You email us Your email address and what you send To reply and keep a record of the conversation Our legitimate interest in answering enquiries Two years after we last hear from you, or longer if it forms part of a sale record
You start a MarkMetric free trial Email address and your MarkMetric machine ID, a random code the app creates To issue and send your trial key, and to allow one trial per machine and per email address To provide the trial you asked for, and our legitimate interest in preventing repeat trials Two years from the start of the trial
You buy a MarkMetric licence Email address, name, machine ID and a record of your payment. Stripe collects your card details; we never see them To issue and send your licence, send your invoice, give support and reissue lost keys, and keep our accounts To perform our contract with you, and our legal duty to keep accounting records As long as we support MarkMetric, and at least six years after the sale
We introduce our products to your business Your name, job title, company, business email address and LinkedIn profile, taken from Companies House, your company's website, public business directories and LinkedIn To tell businesses in construction about MarkMetric and our software work Our legitimate interest in telling relevant businesses about our products Two years after our last contact. If you ask us to stop, we keep only your name, company and email address, so that we don't contact you again

We only email limited companies and LLPs about our products without asking first. If you’re a sole trader or in a partnership, we’ll only connect with you on LinkedIn unless you contact us.

Our hosting provider keeps technical logs, including the addresses of pages visited, for about an hour. They are then deleted automatically.

Cookies and browser storage

gdlconsultancy.com sets no cookies and stores nothing in your browser. Our fonts and images come from our own site.

Videos. Our demo videos are hosted on YouTube, using its privacy-enhanced mode. Nothing loads from YouTube until you click play. When you do, YouTube (Google) receives your IP address and may store information in your browser, under Google’s privacy policy.

MarkMetric stores your projects, drawings, catalogues, prices, settings, licence key and machine ID in your own browser’s storage. This is needed for the app to work, and none of it is sent to us. Clearing your browser’s site data for markmetric.co.uk deletes it, so keep your own exports.

markmetric.co.uk currently loads its font from Google Fonts, so Google receives your IP address when the app opens.
